Driverless Freight, Delivered: Uber Freight Hits Historic Milestone with Aurora

At Uber Freight, our focus is to create the most connected, intelligent, and efficient logistics network in the world—and autonomous trucking is a cornerstone of that vision. Together with Aurora, we’re proud to celebrate a groundbreaking milestone: Since April, Aurora’s self-driving trucks have been completing roundtrip hauls between Dallas and Houston, delivering live, commercial freight without anyone behind the wheel. This moment marks a historic achievement, with Uber Freight becoming the first logistics platform to offer shippers access to fully driverless Class 8 trucks operating on public roads.

A new era of logistics innovation

The trucking industry has long faced challenges including high driver turnover and underutilized assets. Autonomous trucking is designed to alleviate these pressures while delivering real benefits to shippers, carriers, and consumers alike.

Uber Freight’s autonomous vehicle (AV) carriers to date have achieved remarkable results:

  • More than 500,000 supervised autonomous miles on public roads hauling freight ove the past four years.
  • Freight moved for more than 20 shippers across multiple industries.
  • Goods delivered include everyday essentials like pet food, paper products, beverages, appliances, and packaging materials—items that stock shelves and fuel day-to-day life.

This isn’t just about moving freight; it’s about showcasing how autonomy is transforming supply chains and ensuring that the goods people rely on get to where they’re needed most.

“This milestone is a powerful example of what’s possible when innovation meets logistics leadership,” said Lior Ron, Founder and CEO of Uber Freight. “Together with Aurora, we’re unlocking a future where autonomous trucks make supply chains more efficient and reliable. That’s the kind of value shippers across the industry are looking for—and why we’re committed to building a more intelligent and resilient freight network.”

Driving innovation through collaboration

Uber Freight’s commitment to autonomous trucking began in 2021 with strategic partnerships to commercialize AV technology. With the Aurora Driver integrated into the Uber Freight platform, we’ve created a seamless end-to-end solution where booking, tracking, and load changes are managed digitally and efficiently.

This deep integration makes Uber Freight the first and only logistics network to fully harmonize with autonomous trucks, ensuring freight is matched to the right routes with minimal human touch.

The network of choice for autonomous freight

With nearly $20B in freight under management (FUM) and one of the largest logistics networks in the industry, Uber Freight is uniquely positioned to scale the commercialization of autonomous trucks. Our leadership in this space isn’t limited to technology—it extends to collaboration and trust-building with shippers, carriers, and partners.

Through programs like the Premier Autonomy Program, which provides early access to over one billion of Aurora’s driverless miles to Uber Freight carriers through 2030, we’re enabling carriers of all sizes to enhance their business through autonomous technology.

Looking ahead, we’re preparing to help Aurora expand driverless operations to El Paso and Phoenix by the end of 2025, unlocking new lanes and opportunities for the industry.

A trusted vision for tomorrow

As we scale autonomous trucking with our partners, one thing remains constant: our commitment to building trust. Every mile, every load, and every advancement is backed by rigorous testing, transparent communication, and a long-term vision to create better, smarter logistics networks.

Autonomous trucking isn’t a distant concept anymore—it’s here, and it’s already reshaping the world of logistics. Together with Aurora, we’re proud to lead the way.
