At Uber Freight, we’re committed to maintaining high standards of operational integrity across our network. As part of this commitment, we’ve continued investing in fraud mitigation, carrier monitoring, and compliance processes designed to support a more reliable experience for our customers. Since summer 2023, Uber Freight has made measurable progress in reducing fraud-related activity across our proprietary brokerage platform, even as the industry continues experiencing elevated levels of fraudulent activity.
“Freight fraud takes on many forms and continues to be a major challenge across the industry,” said Bill McDermott, Senior Investigator at Uber Freight. “It disrupts operations, creates inefficiencies across the supply chain, and impacts businesses, carriers, and consumers alike. At Uber Freight, we utilize carrier onboarding requirements, compliance processes, and ongoing monitoring designed to support operational integrity across our network.”
One of the key challenges Uber Freight continues to monitor is double brokering, a practice that undermines trust and creates operational disruption across the freight industry. Addressing double brokering has remained an ongoing area of focus for Uber Freight as part of broader fraud mitigation and compliance efforts across the network.
Uber Freight utilizes layered monitoring and verification processes designed to help identify suspicious activity associated with double brokering and other forms of freight fraud. These processes include a combination of automated tools, operational review workflows, and ongoing carrier qualification monitoring. As fraud tactics continue evolving across the industry, Uber Freight continues investing in operational oversight and network integrity efforts over time.
Uber Freight also works with third-party compliance and carrier monitoring providers to support onboarding, verification, and operational monitoring processes across the network. These relationships help support broader efforts around carrier qualification oversight and fraud mitigation.
Our commitment to addressing freight-related fraud extends to collaboration across the broader industry, including law enforcement agencies and risk and compliance technology partners. Recently, Uber Freight collaborated with law enforcement agencies in Southern California to investigate a case involving missing cargo, ultimately contributing to the dismantling of an organized retail crime ring. The effort resulted in more than $1.5 million worth of stolen goods being recovered, highlighting the importance of coordination and information sharing across the freight ecosystem.
As the logistics industry continues to evolve, so too do the operational and fraud-related challenges facing the broader freight ecosystem. Uber Freight continues to invest in operational oversight, compliance monitoring, and industry collaboration designed to support network integrity and reliable transportation operations.
Addressing freight fraud requires ongoing coordination across brokers, carriers, customers, technology providers, and law enforcement. Uber Freight remains committed to supporting collaborative, technology-enabled approaches that help strengthen operational resiliency across the industry.
